Do I need to book in advance?2023-01-02T16:10:00+00:00
We always recommend booking in advance so as to avoid disappointment at the door. PLEASE NOTE: Lancaster is pre-book only and unable to accommodate walk-ins.
First, is it safe?2020-02-09T14:54:43+00:00

All of our instructors are trained professionals and work with you throughout the session. The safety briefing will cover everything you need to know, but be assured, this is a safe and fun activity.

Do I have to sign a disclaimer?2020-02-09T14:54:19+00:00

Yes. This document explains all of our rules and says that you agree to abide by them and understand the risks. It’s not that we don’t trust you to be good but keeps everyone happy… even our insurers.

How many people can do it?2022-07-12T20:13:17+01:00

In a single session we can host 35 people in Edinburgh, 30 in Belfast, 30 in Margate or 20 in Lancaster but we’re also able to split groups to accommodate larger numbers, the best thing to do is get in touch via hello@blackaxethrowing.com

*We also have some amazing options for people not throwing via some of our neighbouring pals

Can I drink alcohol beforehand?2020-02-09T14:53:38+00:00

Anyone found to be intoxicated via drink or drugs will not be able to throw. The End. We reserve the right to turn you away if we think this is the case. We really don’t want this to happen but safety always comes first.

Is there an age limit?2022-10-23T07:06:07+01:00

Yes. We only throw with people over 16 years of age. As for an upper limit providing you’re happy, we are happy. Especially if you’re the 78 Year old grandma from Maine who taught us a throw or two.

Do I have to wear anything special?2020-04-11T07:41:20+01:00

Nope, but please make sure you wear sensible footwear. No open toes or high heels please, you’ll be moving around quite a bit as well as carrying axes. Also, it’s a good idea to wear something that’s easy to move freely in. We don’t want your fashion impeding your high score now do we?

Can I have the place to myself?2022-07-12T20:20:22+01:00

Yes, you can. There are a couple of different ways you are able to do this:

  1. Buy all of the tickets for a certain time slot so they are all yours and no one else can join
  2. Get in touch with us directly to help with your requirements. This is the best option if you have a date in mind for the future. HIT. US. UP.
  3. If you’re a business and have a special day out for your team in mind please get in touch
How long do sessions last?2020-02-09T15:11:56+00:00

All of our sessions are 60 mins long and we try to fit as much in as we can. Sometimes, if the competition is a little too close, and there is a dead heat for the crown, we might call in a bit of extra time to see it through.

What is a session?2020-04-11T07:42:20+01:00

See below for how a typical session might look – but our incredible instructors will customise our sessions depending upon our guests, they’re good like that.

  1. SAFETY BRIEFING – Yup, safety first, always. Before anyone throws anything we always go through our house rules. These are designed to keep everyone safe, outline what everyone will and also must not be doing. You can’t skip this bit.
  1. THE BASICS– That’s the start. The very beginning. We are well aware that a lot of people out there haven’t had the time to try axe-throwing yet which is why all of our sessions start from the very beginning. From how to hold and collect your axe to what’s actually going on when you’re throwing at those targets.
  1. ADVANCED THROWS – You want to try something a little more Thor? Fancy 2 at a time? Our Instructors have all sorts of tricks for you to try out.
  1. THE BIG COMPETITION – What you thought we weren’t going to put you to the test? There is an axe crown out there and it’s got your name on it! So you know what you’re doing, you’ve even started to nail those trickshots, you want the crown. EVERYONE WANTS THE CROWN . It’s time to go head to head, no more alliances, no more besties, it’s all versus all in our competition finale. This is where your Instructor stops advising and starts keeping the score.
  1. PHOTO TIME – We pictures of all of our throwers. No not a stiff corporate portrait, all of you next to your targets… with axes.
Arrival times2020-02-09T15:14:44+00:00

You need to arrive at your session in good time.

You need to arrive at your session in good time.

You need to arrive at your session in good time.

We recommend 15 minutes, 10 is fine, 5 is cutting it fine. 3 isn’t worth thinking about.

What if I’m late?2020-02-09T15:15:54+00:00

You need to arrive at your session in good time (did we say that?)

Seriously, it’s crucial you arrive on time, we have a lot to cover in our sessions, with the essential safety briefing right at the start. If you’re not there you’re holding up a group of people who have also paid for their time. We won’t have time to rewind and so reserve the right to forfeit your session if you are late.

What about Disabled access?2022-07-12T20:14:10+01:00

We try to accommodate all abilities into our sessions. Each of our venues is fully wheelchair accessible from street to axe throwing lane. If you would like to ask any questions about accessibility or would like to know more about what’s involved please do get in touch.

What about spectators?2020-02-09T15:18:39+00:00

We don’t allow spectators at any of our venues aside from special events. That said if you need any help finding somewhere to go whilst a pal is throwing we would be more than happy to help

Can I bring my pet?2020-02-09T15:19:35+00:00

Nope, sorry. We are big fans of animals, which is why we don’t allow them along to sessions. It can be loud, there are objects being thrown (yup, axes) and lots of unfamiliar people. If you’re checking out what Fido is up to then you’re not following what were up to.
